The inspiration for this theme comes from the book, Soul Revolution, by John Burke. In the book, John challenges his readers to try a simple, but radical experiment: connect with God every 60 minutes for 60 days. It’s referred to as the 60-60 experiment and it’s about developing a new habit of staying in communication with God throughout our day, including Him in all of our thoughts, decisions, stresses and celebrations. John challenges even those who do not believe that God exists to try the experiment. In the book, John documents the results of believers and non-believers alike who embarked on the 60-60 experiment, and many of these results are so life transforming in such a short period of time that they almost defy belief. We feel that if such positive results could be obtained in 60 days, then even more could happen if the experiment were extended to every day of the year... indefinitely. Hence, 60-365. In regard to John Burke, this is what Henry Cloud, Ph.D. had to say about him in the foreword of Soul Revolution: “What I love about John’s message is the absence of religion. If we are to grow, and if we are to successfully invite other people to grow as well, then we cannot practice or preach religion. It neither works nor is attractive to those outside its walls. In fact, whenever Jesus did get mad, it was at the religious people, never the strugglers. To the struggler, he did not offer religion. He offered himself. He offered a relationship.”
The 60-365 image is our rendition of the Rock of Ages. Rock of Ages is symbolic of the hope that we can have when all else in life seems hopeless. That no matter how turbulent things are, the one being who we can cling to who cannot be shaken, like solid rock, is God. That there is light and peace over the horizon and this hope is what can get us through any situation. All we have to do is just stay in a relationship with Him. The ‘60’ and ‘365’ at the base of the Tau cross are joined with an infinity symbol to remind us to connect with God indefinitely. Remember that you are never alone. If you follow the bible, then you may recognize the passage: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you…” (Isaiah 41:10)
